Women participated quite actively in the Indian national movement. They participated in the boycott of foreign goods, picketing of liquor shops, non-payment of taxes, and so on. All of the above movements drew women out from the seclusion of home.
Chuar Uprising was started by aboriginal tribesmen of Midnapore district. The reason was famine, enhanced land revenue demands and economic distress. It lasted from 1766 to 1772 and again surfaced between 1759 and 1816.
