The peresent age of the father and the son are in the ratio of 8:3. After 12 years the ratio of their ages will be 2:1. What is the sum of the present age of the father and the son ?
Let the present age of the father be 'x' and that of the son be 'y'. Then x/y = 8/3∴ 3x = 8y Further, x + 12/y + 12 = 2/1 ∴ x + 12 = 2y + 24 ∴ x - 2y = 12 ......(ii)From eqn (i) and (ii), x = 48, y = 18 ∴ sum = 66 yrs.
Let the four numbers be x, x + 2, x + 4 and x + 6.=> x + x + 2 + x + 4 + x + 6 = 36=> 4x + 12 = 36 => x = 6The numbers are 6, 8, 10 and 12.Sum of their squares = 62 + 82 + 102 + 122 = 36 + 64 + 100 + 144 = 344.
Average of 8 consecutive odd numbers = 656/8 = 82∴ Fourth number = 82 - 1 = 81∴ First numbers = 75Average of 4 even numbers = 87∴ Second even number = 87 - 1 = 86Second largest even number = 88∴ Required sum = 75 + 88 = 163
